Abstract
The art of teaching, Mark Van Doren said, is the art of
assisting discovery. We have tried to write a book that
assists students in discovering calculus. Calculus is
used by scientists and engineers in the world. We have written
a calculus textbook intended for students majoring in computer
science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering and related
fields.
Our primary objectives are to find better ways to motivate
students and facilitate their understanding. We have incorporated
meaningful writing exercises at the end of each section and
tutorial for each chapter. In particular, we have included numerous
examples to give students a familiar context of various concepts
and their applications.
