Abstract
As stipulated in the National Higher Education Strategic Plan and the National Graduate Employability Blueprint, Academia-Industry plays an important role in creating a synergetic partnership between the universities and industries. Collaboration between these entities will unlock potentials in the Institutes of Higher Learning and industries to be benefited by the community. As world economies changes, a developing economy such as ours would also need to build its resilience to withstand changes. These changes would impact the policies on higher education, human capital development, graduate employability and research & development. As such the Ministry of Education has created a signature programme - Industry Centre of Excellence (ICoE) to spearhead Institutes of Higher Learning to be constantly competitive in producing graduates and R&D while industries to be much more responsive to the limitations of the universities. Trust and mutual understanding is an essential element in progressing as a partnership. The existing collaborations between industry and Institutes of Higher Learning must be sustained for the benefit of both parties and new relationships must be created for the future. This book specifically focuses on various aspects of the Malaysias economic situation, the issues and challenges related to graduate employability, the ICoE programme and the way forward on boosting the collaborations to another level. I hope this book will help all stakeholders to better understand the need to establish and sustain strong industry- Institutes of Higher Learning partnership via the ICoE programme with a notion to develop holistic human capital to benefit the nation through economic growth in achieving a higher income nation.
