Abstract
This manuscript is intended to present the introduction of pile foundation
and its design principles for an undergraduate course in soil mechanics
and foundations. It will provide you with an understanding and also as a
quick reference not only to undergraduates but also to academicians and
practitioners in the civil engineering field. The design of safe and
economical pile foundations requires considerable experience and
judgment which cannot be obtained by reading this or any other textbook.
Chapters are presented thoroughly and systematically to elucidate the
basic concepts and fundamental principles of designing pile foundation
using Eurocode 7. Therefore it is expected that the fundamental
principles and guidance provided in this manuscript will be a base for
lifelong learning in the science and art of foundation engineering for our
graduates.
