k. Picture/chart/graph tells more than words. It assists in perceiving trends easily than
merely tabulating a long list of numerals. Highlight important points/areas of the graph.
l. Try your slides with the computer at the viva venue. Prepare backup for your slides.
Remember to power up your computer. Make sure of slides clarity on the screen, as the
clarity on computer screen not assuring the same on the bigger screen.
m. Bring pointer/slide mover. It is of much help in pointing a particular point/area/term in
the slides.
n. Avoid arguments and intense feelings. Students often having a range of emotions during
the viva voce. Remember that you are there to discuss your work with the experts. Keep
positive atmosphere throughout the session.
o. Prevent lengthy discussions that lead to many unwarranted queries. Simply answer
questions directly. If unsure, you may give a description but make it brief.
p. Bring important supporting documents, in case you need them to defend/support your
work. They could be journal articles, books, reports, newspaper and magazines. As far as
possible, you should have a copy of those documents in your computer. For instance, if the
examiners asking about specifications of your test method, you are expected to have them
with you.
q. Bring pen and paper to note the examiners’ comments. This is strongly encouraged as it
reflects your commitment towards the panel and their views.
r. Avoid excessive animations. Yes, too many animations in your slides obstruct the attention
of the audience. Animations should be kept at minimal.

CONFIDENCE DURING PRESENTATION
Unlike to the common belief that holding something during presentation, practicing slow
breathing, recording you practicing will elevate your confidence level, the true confidence can
only be achieved by the following practices. Of course those above said common
recommendations will boost your confidence, but to a very limited extent.

Well written thesis
A well written thesis, that is error-free, right format, well discussed and not merely
reported, will lift your confidence. After all, this is
your
thesis, a document that has been
authored by a single author. As such, give a serious attention to produce a good thesis.
Use all the available tools to pen your thesis, for instance auto spelling check, auto
generation of Table of Contents, Referencing software and so on.
b.
Engagements
Actively engage yourself by attending conferences, exhibitions, forums, as well as writing
proceedings, articles, book chapters, books, patents and gain as much as industrial
exposures that are related to your research work. This is the real confidence booster.
