TOPIC 7 : POSSIBLE OUTCOMES OF VIVA VOCE

THE FIVE POSSIBLE OUTCOMES (SCALES)
Scale 1: Pass without correction.
Scale 2: Pass with minor correction.
Scale 3: Pass with major correction.
Scale 4: Thesis re-examination. Must attend another viva voce.
Scale 5

7.2 THE CONSEQUENCES OF EACH OUTCOME
SCALE 1
•
Pass Without Correction.
•
Corrections confirmation (if any) by the Main Supervisor.
•
Maximum
time duration is 3 months.
Consequences
•
Rare occurrence. Congratulations, your effort has been paid accordingly. You have
satisfied all parties.
•
You may have corrections in spelling and formatting.
•
Ample time (3 months) is given; you may submit your thesis as soon as you have
rectified those concerns and after being verified by your main supervisor.
SCALE 2
•
Pass With Minor Corrections.
•
Corrections confirmation by (i) The Internal Examiner and
(ii) The Main Supervisor.
•
Maximum
time duration is 6 months.
Consequences
•
Congratulations, your effort has been paid accordingly too.
•
You may have several corrections in rephrasing or/and adding sentences, topics, sub-
topics.
•
External examiner is satisfied and suggesting internal and the main supervisor to
verify your corrected work before your submission.
•
You must submit your thesis within the duration of 6 months.
SCALE 3
•
Pass With Major Corrections.
•
Corrections confirmation by (i) The External Examiner,
(ii) The Internal Examiner and (iii) The Main Supervisor.
•
Maximum
time duration is 9 months.
Consequences
•
Be happy, you still pass.
•
You may have many corrections in term of your content.
•
Amend them according to the panel’s list.
